Ken:

So, Tad, everyone wants an amazing life but not everyone gets there, what do you think it takes to get to an amazing life?

Tad:

That is an interesting question because just a while back I was trying to answer that in a way that honestly, I could deliver to my audience that made sense and had a catchy acronym. I never got it to the catchy acronym but I came up with “FEAD” That stands for focus, empathy, articulation, and decisiveness. What I’ve seen in my coaching, my mentoring over the last several years and with me. Is if those four things aren’t in alignment, then you generally don’t get there. Most of the people that are doing those four aren’t thinking about it. They are not consciously thinking, I got to be focused today, they just know. I got to be focused and I got a care about the people that I am selling to so I really understand what their needs are so I can provide that solution. Then I got to be able to articulate it. If I can’t articulate my offer no one will take me up on it because they don’t know what I offer. Then I have to be decisive. I have to make moves right or wrong. I got to move.

Ken:

awesome okay I love that “FEAD” that is wonderful now what is the toughest thing that you had to overcome in your life?

Tad:

probably the toughest things I have had is lack of focus, not being methodical enough at what I am attempting to achieve. I was probably ADHD when I was a kid but that was before that was a thing. So, we were just scattered back then. We didn’t have a diagnosis. I see a lot of people struggle with that. Especially with the internet the way it is, with marketing and you’ve always got the new thing. You can spend all day online, buy 8 things and never use any of them. There is just so much out there and so many people trying to get their message out. That it is hard to know what to focus on. So, I know I and so many other people struggle with that.

Ken:

So how does that show up in your life?

Tad:

I believe it shows up in huge to-do lists, multiple to-do lists, people not completing projects, starting a task not finishing it. We have a joke in our house if you’ve ever seen the movie Up by Pixar and Disney the dogs that are in the plane that are chasing them in the last part of the movie. You know what happens yeah “Squirrel.”

Ken:

It is so easy to get caught up in what’s new and glamorous right I mean there is all over the place.

Tad:

Shiny Object syndrome is alive and well.

Ken:

It is so readily available and then we can be entertained 24 hours a day 7 days a week for a number of years and not even repeat anything right now and so it’s really hard to stay focused when there is that much bombarding us…

Tad:

Absolutely so when my kids were five and six that was back in the round 2005-2006 it was estimated that a ten-year-old or younger child would see 3,100 promotional messages a day. I saw another stat about a year ago that said that adults that are just going through their normal day will see over 10,000 promotional messages. You might think about it and say that’s not possible, but look around your office, how many logos are on your desk? That’s a promotional message, so we are just bombarded constantly.

Ken:

Yes, that is crazy, what are some of the biggest mistakes that you’ve seen other people make?

Tad:

It’s interesting, but really goes back to FEAD, if people do that than they are going to move forward. Whether or not they will be successful is another question, it depends on their version or their definition of success. Also, do they have a product that or an offer that resonates with a target audience to get reach. They can be executing those 4 processes trying to sell a product that doesn’t fit their audience. It is not going to work that way. If they have those 4 characteristics going for them and they have that going for them and most of the time people do. If they have looked their market wants and developed what the market wants not what they like. This is another mistake I see people make. I do it all the time but I catch myself. Don’t fall in love with your product, if you fall in love with your product, you’re not listening to what your audience is saying.

Ken:

So, Tad what skills or talents do you have that most people don’t know about?

Tad:

I made a lot of mistakes, one of my favorite quotes is and I’ll probably butcher it but it goes something to the effect of: I have no special talents or innate talents, I’m just passionately curious. What I have found in my interviews on my podcast on my show.  Cuz, I ask people a similar question. I found that people that are successful by their definition have passion for what they are doing. It is what gets them out of bed in the morning. It’s not the money, the money is important, but it’s what they are doing. They really like it. In fact, I was talking to a guy yesterday who has a $100,000 coaching program. It takes a year, you sign up, he offers progress payments but it’s 100 Grand. That is a niche audience and he was talking to one of his clients and they were asking how much coaching he did online” He said I’m coaching through zoom most of the day, they said “oh man, how can you do that?” The client asked a question which identified that he didn’t understand. What the coach was doing and what we were doing would have been work to the client. He didn’t know that it was passion and what the coach loves.

Ken:

Alright, what accomplishments are you most proud of?

Tad:

Raising my kids, that is without a doubt my proudest thing that I have ever done. Heading the family that I have. Because before I had it I didn’t realize what it was, and that is a super important part of me, my day, and everything I do.

Ken:

Does the “FEAD,” transfer into family life?

Tad:

It could, sure. I mean focus is important, empathy is critical, if you don’t have empathy in your family life good luck. Articulation is important in anything. I have a friend who is a therapist. She used to say that in times of stress or in times of high anxiety the most important thing is clarity. For people to be clear, because we can’t read each other’s minds, we have to be able to articulate. So being able to get a meaning across, it is important in marketing, it is important in life, it is important going to the grocery store. It is important to ask for what you want in a clear way. Then decisiveness is important but maybe not so much as the others like empathy and articulation.

Ken:

Great, now if there were only three ideas that you could leave for this world in your posterity what 3 ideas would you leave for them that could lead them to have an amazing life?

Tad:

Find and live your passion and then it’s not work. That’s the big one for me. I’m gonna steal this from Walt Disney, but it is one of mine, I love it. That is to keep moving forward. Don’t stop before you are stopped. At some point in your life, you’re going to be stopped and you won’t be able to go any further, that’s fine. Until you get to that point keep going, because that’s what we are here to do. I’m going to stop there… No, I’ll add a third one. Have empathy. Unless you are going to fight your way through this life day in day out you have to have empathy. That doesn’t mean you have to surrender to what people are thinking or feeling. That is not the same thing, we have to be able to understand.

Ken

Because sympathy and empathy are totally different right? Empathy is more understanding even if we don’t agree.

Tad:

Feeling what they feel. Understanding what they feel. You don’t have to agree with them.

Ken:

This is such a big problem in our world today, right? Because we have people that bash on anyone that sees things differently than them.

Tad:

That’s become a pastime.

Ken:

Thanks for all that information, where can our listeners go to find you?

Tad:

They can find my podcast Micro Success Secrets or search any of the major networks and we pop right up. They can also go to our website.

Ken:

I want to acknowledge you for the professional and caring person that you are and for the way you do business. You are very honest and aboveboard with your program, what it does and doesn’t do and I have a lot of respect for that.

Tad:

Thank you. I really appreciate that.
